Voor een nieuwe tentoonstelling in Londen zijn er foto's opgedoken van een piepjonge Kate Moss. Ze is pas 14, maar overduidelijk al modelwaardig. En wij hebben de beelden!
Fotograaf David Ross werd vijfentwintig jaar geleden door zijn vriendin Sarah Doukas - die net haar eigen modellenbureau Storm had opgericht - gevraagd om foto's te maken van de toen 14-jarige, onschuldige Kate Moss: "Kate was a young girl like any other, but with a certain teenage air about her that was piercing. She was against the grain of any other look of the time. She was a cool kid and refreshing in that sense. She just had an attitude and an expression that kind of came easy I guess."
Fris en jeugdig
Volgens Ross leek de in Croydon geboren schoonheid niet zenuwachtig, desondanks hij deed zijn best om ervoor te zorgen dat ze zo comfortabel was. Op de beelde in zien we het supermodel in haar meest frisse en jeugdige look: "I tried to make her feel safe about trying things if she wanted to. I told her that she was unique and, when I spoke to her, I just willed upon her what I wanted to achieve for her new agency. She didn't need to really do anything - that's the secret. You see, modelling is an art form and having a natural sense of how much to do and how little to do is a skill that you either have or you don't."
Als Marilyn Monroe
25 jaar nadat de eerste foto's werden genomen, en de naam van Moss nu algemeen bekend is, geeft Ross toe dat - hoewel hij nooit had kunnen vermoeden wat zijn jonge muze zou bereiken - er iets heel bijzonders aan haar was: "These pictures are proof that Kate Moss holds the same mystique as Marilyn Monroe, who had the same elements about her during Fifties. In many ways, Kate has the sense of just knowing what she can do to people looking at her, via camera or not."
