Het instituut fungeert als museum, kenniscentrum, onderwijsomgeving, winkel voor beeldcultuur, ontwerperscafé en productiehuis voor grafische vormgeving. Het Graphic Design Museum biedt een internationaal podium voor gevestigde ontwerpers en is tevens een springplank voor nieuw toptalent.
