Je bruidsjurk verliezen is de grootste nachtmerrie van elke bruid. Helaas overkwam dit de Schotse Tess Newell, maar met behulp van Facebook wist ze haar 150 jaar oude trouwjurk terug te krijgen. Bedankt social media!
In 1870 maakte Tess' betovergrootoma, Dora, de trouwjurk met de hand en ze droeg deze jurk toen ze in het huwelijksbootje. Járen later gaf Tess in diezelfde jurk het ja-woord aan Alfred Newell. De jonge vrouw wilde haar bruidsjapon een wasbeurt geven en bracht 'm daarom naar een stomerij in Edinburgh, maar toen Tess de jurk wilde ophalen was de zaak dicht en de jurk weg. Vermoedelijk was de jurk meegenomen om verkocht te worden.
We moeten van geluk spreken dat we in het social media-tijdperk leven, want door haar verhaal op Facebook te delen kreeg ze haar 150 jaar oude jurk terug. Op Facebook schrijft Tess het volgende:
“We received a phone call from the very kind landlord of the shop property who had read about it through this amazing response. He checked what was really left by the administrators (Wylie & Bisset) and found antique lace in a crumpled heap on the floor. My Mum and Dad have just been let into the shop and to their amazement and joy it is our dress! (Not cleaned but still with our ticket, despite Wylie & Bisset stating that it was definitely NOT there) Frustratingly – a representative of Wylie & Bisset insisted that for ‘procedural reasons’ he must take it back to his office in Glasgow, but assures us it will be delivered safely back to us on Monday. My family can’t thank you all enough for creating this frenzy which allowed us into the shop before it was too late, and are over the moon to be *almost* reunited with Dora’s dress. Love Tess x”
