Diversiteit in de mode-industrie is relevanter dan ooit. Modellen in alle soorten, maten en leeftijden maken hun opmars in de fashion wereld. Hoewel er grote diversiteitsstappen worden gemaakt, is dat volgens Chrissy Teigen nog lang niet genoeg.
Tijdens de launch party van Sports Illustrated Swim 2017 nam de beauty de tijd om te praten over stereotypering en diversiteit in de mode. “I think its really important to start embracing people, seeing them in roles that are not necessarily ‘that Asian girl’ or ‘that Asian boy”, vertelt Chrissy aan E! News.
“I want it to be a normal thing to be able to see Asian models, and I think Asian models are really underrepresented in the industry, especially on the runways or in magazines”, gaat het model verder. “I personally am not offended by culture appropriation of any sort because I feel like it does pay homage, but at the same time there are a lot of beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Asian woman that could do the same thing”, ligt het model toe die zelf van Thaise, Duitse en Noorse komaf is.
