Blake Lively liet al eerder weten dat er geen haar op haar hoofd is die eraan denkt om een vervolg te maken op Gossip Girl. De actrice is het inmiddels niet meer eens met waar de serie voor staat en steekt dat niet onder stoelen of banken.
Ook Leighton Meester laat nu in Net-A-Porter's wekelijkse digitale tijdschrift van zich horen over de serie. Hoewel ze het niet helemaal met de grond gelijk maakt, zoals haar ex-collega doet, is ze nou niet echt enthousiast over Gossip Girl.
"It was a very special time…that was filled with challenges that have nothing to do with [Gossip Girl] and also sometimes things that did have something to do with it”, aldus Leighton. “But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s sort of a time capsule. A lot of the questions that come from it are: ‘Do you miss it?’ ‘Did you love what you wore?’ And I understand that, but—and I say this with nothing but love—it is like saying, ‘High school was an amazing time for you, do you wish you could go back?’ And the truth is, it was so special and such a unique, amazing experience, but no, I wouldn’t wanna go back to it, I was a kid!"
En voor een 'kid' van 21 jaar is het nou eenmaal niet zo fijn om 16 uur per dag voor vijf dagen per week in een studio te werken: iets wat wel moest voor de serie en dat zes jaar lang. De werkdruk was enorm hoog en dat ging Leighton niet in de koude kleren zitten. "I would get there at 5am and leave at 8pm; a lot of days I didn’t see the sun." Ook qua relaties was het op een jonge leeftijd al een uitdaging voor de brunette. "Because of the success of Gossip Girl…I had to figure out quickly what’s real and what’s not, who I can trust and who I can’t.”
Haar conclusie over haar Gossip Girl tijd? "I’m not haunted by that time, but it’s been interesting and helpful for me to look at it and examine it as an adult and go, ‘I don’t know if it was the healthiest environment." We kunnen het ons zo voorstellen...
