Vrouwen met okselhaar: het is nog steeds iets waar veel mensen huiverig voor zijn. Zowel mannen als vrouwen laten geregeld van zich horen dat ze het 'not done' vinden en zeker als de combinatie met feminisme wordt gelegd, gaan mensen stijgeren.
Dat blijkt maar weer nu model en actrice Emily Ratajkowski zich voor Harper's Bazaar liet vastleggen met een flinke dot haar onder haar arm. Voor het magazine schreef ze een essay over feminisme, een onderwerp dat haar aan het hart gaat én waar ze echt wel het nodige van weet, onder andere dankzij studies die zij gedaan heeft.
In het essay schrijft ze over dat ze meedeed aan de protesten tegen Brett Kavanaugh een tijdje geleden en dat ze daar liep in een tanktop zonder beha. Het bevreemde haar dat ze van mede-activisten commentaar kreeg over het niet dragen van een bustehouder. Het gaat immers om de keuze die jij als vrouw zijnde voor jezelf maakt en dat anderen daar niks over te zeggen zouden moeten hebben.
"If I had chosen not to wear that tank without a bra, that would have been okay too. If I decide to shave my armpits or grow them out, that’s up to me. For me, body hair is another opportunity for women to exercise their ability to choose—a choice based on how they want to feel and their associations with having or not having body hair. On any given day, I tend to like to shave, but sometimes letting my body hair grow out is what makes me feel sexy. And there is no right answer, no choice that makes me more or less of a feminist, or even a “bad feminist,” to borrow from Roxane Gay. As long as the decision is my choice, then it’s the right choice. Ultimately, the identity and sexuality of an individual is up to them and no one else."
Het internet heeft vanzelfsprekend ook een reactie op het plukje onder de armen van het model. Bij de post op haar Instagram account zijn natuurlijk een hoop mensen die het met haar eens zijn, maar krijgt ze het nodige commentaar naar haar hoofd gegooid.

I say that's just being lazy, you could do so many other things to make a point but yeh, the armpits were the way to go (let your armpits grow out but gym and diet like crazy on every other part of your body? Lol) I don't think you fully understand the subject of what you're trying to post. Using your following to promote something you obviously don't even believe in is wrong."
